Development History

The Kaohsiung International Women's Club is a non-profit social organization composed of women from various countries residing in the Kaohsiung area. Founded in 1967, its mission is to "promote international friendship among women, enhance women's morality and intelligence, seek common interests for women and serve society, and promote their own and society's welfare."

In 1967, Mr. Hsieh Kuan-i, then head of the Export Processing Zone Administration, recognized the growing international importance of Kaohsiung City and the increasing number of foreign women residing there. In order to enhance mutual understanding between Chinese and foreign women, he initiated the organization of the International Women's Club to promote public diplomacy and social welfare activities.

On October 12th of the same year, the Kaohsiung International Women's Club officially held its founding ceremony at the Grand Hotel. Members included women and their families from the Export Processing Zone, diplomatic envoys, the U.S. military advisory group, and women from all walks of life in the city. Although the number of members was small, it was a major event that caused a sensation in Kaohsiung's social circles at the time.

Ms. Yeh Chang Nien-chu, wife of Yeh Shou-chang, chairman of Kaohsiung Electric Company, was elected as the founding president. The second president was Ms. Peg Carn-rick, wife of Carn-rick, chief consultant of Taiwan Power Company. Then, Ms. Chen Huang Shu-hui, wife of Chen Tien-an, chairman of Kaohsiung City Council, served as the third president. This fine tradition has continued for more than fifty years.

Except for the recesses in July and August, our club holds ten regular meetings annually. The monthly meeting is held on the fourth Wednesday of each month, featuring a variety of exciting programs and social activities. In addition, a charity gala is held every May to raise funds to support various charitable organizations.

The International Women's Club is a women's organization that provides opportunities for Chinese and foreign women to learn from each other and share joy. We welcome all sisters to join us. The International Women's Club also warmly welcomes foreign sisters to participate and recapture its former glory. Foreign sisters can learn to serve as directors and supervisors, and after becoming familiar with the organization's operations, they can assume the position of president.

Message from the President

Kaohsiung City International Women's Club

56th President:

Zheng Shufang

Dear members of the Kaohsiung City International Women's Club (KIWC),

As I enter the 56th edition, I am filled with immense gratitude and anticipation. Thank you all for your continued support, allowing the spirit of KIWC to continue to flourish year after year.

This year, we are committed to Care, Inspire, Act, Learn, Connect Internationally

These five pillars, which serve as the core principles and symbolize the power of women at KIWC, are also the direction we are moving towards together.

Care|

Bringing warmth and strength through genuine care is the deepest foundation of KIWC's culture. We care about society, support public welfare, and also care about each other's lives, families, and souls. Through every act of companionship and mutual assistance, we bring continuous light to society with love.

Inspire |

Becoming a source of inspiration in each other's lives, every member's story, experience, and talent is a ray of light. We are inspired by sharing, motivated by collaboration, and find strength in the community. The beauty of KIWC lies in how we help each other see a braver and better version of ourselves.

Act|

Putting philanthropy and mission into practice with concrete actions is the beginning of change, and it is also a long-standing tradition and source of pride for KIWC. Whether it is charity, volunteer service, support for the disadvantaged, education promotion, or cultural activities, every step transforms love into tangible impact, leaving warm footprints in society.

Learn|

Learn and grow, embodying the confidence and continuous progress that represent female power. KIWC is committed to creating a platform for lifelong learning: cultural courses, lectures, art experiences, health activities, international etiquette... enabling every member to grow through knowledge, find new perspectives through learning, and live a richer life.

Connect Internationally |

Bringing the world into Kaohsiung, and enabling KIWC to move forward with the world, international exchange is an important mission of our International Women's Club.

We are committed to:

Establish friendly cooperation with overseas offices of various countries.

Promote cultural exchange and deepen international understanding.

• Invite international friends to participate in various KIWC activities

Sharing the beauty of Taiwan and learning from the world.

It will become a cultural bridge between Kaohsiung and the international community.

Through exchanges, we not only broaden our horizons, but also showcase the warmth and wisdom of women's power to the world.

Let's join hands and move forward to create a better KIWC and a warmer world.

Looking forward to working together in the coming year:

With Care, we convey warmth; with Inspire, we illuminate possibilities; with Act, we create influence; with Learn, we improve ourselves; and through international exchange, we let the world see the elegance and power of KIWC.
